Susan Harvey was the 1st wife of Barnard V. Stoughton; neither are in my direct ancestry. Barnard V. Stoughton is 1 step removed in the following ways:


Susan Harvey married Barnard V. Stoughton. They had six children together. Susan Harvey(Stoughton) died in May of 1847. Four of their six children were under six years old when she died. The infant Susan was taken in to be raised by Mary Ann Harvey (Dustin/Durstin), Susan Harvey's sister, and lived with the Durstin family in Illinois for a time.

Family headed by Barnard Stoeton(sic): 2 males <5, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 20-30, 1 female 20-30.
Note: the male and female in their 20's are the proper ages for Barnard Stoughton and his wife Susan Harvey. The two youngest males are likely to be their children, but the 10-15 year old seems too old to be a child of someone in their 20's.
Family headed by Margaret Stoeton is two entries earlier; William Wimer is next entry.

1) Barnard Stoughton b. 1817 in Butler Co. PA, married Susannah unknown (born 1817 Clarion Co. PA). Their children: John Elliott Stoughton 1837; Joseph Stoughton 1838; Hannah Stoughton 1842; Catherine Stoughton 1844; Susannah Stoughton 1846.

  *Elliott migrated to Washington state.
 * Susan Blanche Stoughton went to IL withher mother's sister, Mrs. Dustin.
 * Catherine Stoughton apparently married William Whitman in PA, before they joined her father Barnard in migrating westward. Her son John S. Whitman is mentioned in the "Memories" book

*Susan Harvey died 17 May 1847 (per L. D. S. records). Susan Harvey (Stoughton), sister Maryann Harvey(Durstin), & brother Elliott Harvey were children of Joseph Harvey & Hannah Hendricks. Joseph Harvey had a sister, Eliza Harvey.
Both Maryann and Susan Harvey named sons "John Elliott", after their brother Elliott.


*Mary Ann Harvey (Susan Harvey's sister) named a son Harvey Hendreis Durstin. This name led to the location of her parents, Joseph Harvey & Hannah Hendricks.

 * Susan Blanche Stoughton went to IL with Aunt Mrs. Dustin. Confirmed in the 1850 census, Susannah Stoughton age 3; and by the 1860 census Roundside IL, Susanna Straughton (sic) age 13 and her cousin, Christian W. Dustin age 12 , and living in the Beureville household. The Dustin/Durstine family reside in the same township.
 * Catherine Stoughton apparently married William Whitman in PA, before they joined her father Barnard in migrating westward. Her son John S. Whitman is mentioned in the "Memories" book; the family in Lawrence MO & Newton Co. MO in census of 1870, 1900 & 1910. Census reveal his wife's first name was Mary.
