Source notes

  • Our initial listing of children included sons Thomas, and Jefferson. For now,per the research of Jim Voltz, these have been combined, on the following logic. The 1850 census has no mention of a son "Jefferson", and was only 2 years previous to John B."s death. The will of John B. Stoughton was not been seen by us, and may be abstracted incorrectly above (i.e. Thomas Jefferson may be one name).A complete will copy is on order (Aug 15 2008). Voltz cites the above military record for Thomas J. Stoughton, and notes that the only other Thomas Stoughton born about 1840 seems to be Thomas S. Stoughton, son of William and Mary (Wick) Stoughton.
