3 History of Butler County Pennsylvania 1895, page 610, indicates that Thomas Humphrey, Andrew, Edward, and James Douglass, Christopher Wimer, and, it is said, Charles Coulter, arrived [in Worth Twp., Butler Co., PA] in 1798, all except one being natives of norther Ireland. Then, on page 1240, it indicates that Christopher Wimer came from Adams Co., PA, to Butler Co., PA in 1798 and settled in Worth Twp. He married Miss Snyder of Adams Co., and together they had seven children named Samuel, John, Peter, Jonathan, William, Isaac, and Rebecca. Rebecca married Thomas Kelly.
4 The Wimer Family, by Paul W. Myers, self-published manuscript, undated(printed before 1985. Eight generations of the Wimer family charted, with biographical information on Christopher Wimer and his children, derived from interviews of descendants and extensive research of property deeds, military records, and wills.
"Rebecca Wimer married Thomas Kelly, a pioneer settler of Worth Township, and they established their home on the Kelly Homestead, located on present-day Kelly Road, a mile south of Moore's Corners....Mr. Kelly, who was born in 1786, died at his home in Worth township in 1862. The Kelly's were members of Wolf Creek Seceder Church, and upon their deaths, interment was made in the adjoining cemetery." The children were as follows: Mary S. b. 1822; Samuel b. 1823; Else E.; Thomas b. 1827; Rebecca b. 1831; Hannah b. 1834; Isaac Eli b. 1836.

Will was signed 29 June 1861 by Thomas Kelly of Worth Twp., Butler Co. PA. To son Samuel Kelly, sixty acres 9 perches off east end of my current residence land, according to survey of J. I. Hoge on 28 May 1858. Also a lot of 6 acres west of J. O. McNees known as the Early Meadow. To son Thomas Kelly, all remainder of current residence land., about 59 acres 79 perches, plus land owned by purchase of the Pisor Tract and the Amaziah Kelly Tract. Also "to my son" all personal property, and Thomas is to pay all debts. To three grandchildren, the daughters of my daughter Mary S. Hoge dec., $100 to be divided among them. To grandchildren, the children of my daughter Else Martin dec., $100 to be divided among them. To daughter Hannah Douglas $100; to daughter Rebecca Price $100. To son Isaac E. Kelly $100. Son Thomas Kelly to be sole executor.

Conjecture

  • The ancestors of Thomas Kelly are not yet known to us. His will mentions his purchase of the Amaziah Kelly tract.
    Paul W. Myers, in "The Wimer Family", says that Thomas Kelly was a pioneer of Worth Twp., Butler Co. PA. In the 1895 History of Butler County, the discussion of the Worth Township Pioneers, starting on pg. 609, names blacksmith Jonathan Kelly, arrived with his parents in 1796 (parents are not named); Archibald, Michael and Joseph Kelly arrived in 1798, as did Christopher Wimer, (our Thomas Kelly's father-in-law).
