One of the McCandless settlers was a tailor and farmer, the other a distiller and farmer. "When about nine years of age, R. M. Russell accompanied his father to Centre Township. He was one of those who vaiiantly served his countyr as a soldier during the rebellion. His death, which occurred July 8, 1882, was a loss to the community, where he ws much esteemed. His widow resides on the farm given her husband by his grandfather, R. M. McCandless.
