Jane McCandless (????)

NOT A DIRECT ANCESTOR Jane McCandless is not in my direct ancestry. She was the eldest daughter of John McCandless and Jane Carothers. She married Robert M. McCandless, a brother of William "Tailor Billy" McCandless. These brothers were two of the first group of three brothers to immigrate. They were nephews of John and Jane (Carothers) McCandless, whom they accompanied to America. Jane was a daughter of John and Jane(Carothers) McCandless. If the word "nephew" was used as it is today, then Jane would be a first cousin of her husband Robert M. McCandless. She is thus 2 or 3 steps removed from direct line ancestry.
