From The McCandless and Related Families by Joseph A. Ferree Jr., p. 53.
"Robert M. McCandless, the eldest of this group of three brothers, had, before leaving Ireland, married Jane McCandless, eldest daughter of John and Jane (Carothers) McCandless. They were the poineer settlers on a tract of land about one mile north of the village of Unionville, on the Butler-Mercer turnpike. A part of this tract was bequeathed by Robert M. McCandless to his grandson, Robert M. Russell. The latter lived on this farm from early manhood to the end of his life. It later became the home of Robert M. Russell's son, John M. Russell, who, with his mother, lived there during his lifetime. The farm then descended to John M. Russell's son, William Coulter Russell. The children of Robert M. and Jane (McCandless) McCandless were:
John (Jack) McCandless (died 1844), married Margaret McCandless (died 1844).
Robert McCandless, married Jane Cranmer.
William (Billy McCandless), married Betsey Stewart. No descendants.
Margaret (Peggy) McCandless married William Thompson.
Elizabeth (Betsey) McCandless married William Russell."
