Note: Living next door, Barnard V. Stoughton was the uncle of Martha Jane Boyle Hagan (who died in 1873); her widower husband was John Edward Hagan. Apparently the census taker substituted a son's name (Thomas B. Hagan) for the head of household John E. Hagan. Note his daughter was born in MO.

Martha Jane Boyle (b. 26 Mar 1843 / wed 1 July 1863 at age 20 / d. 2 Mar 1873 at age 30. She married (John) Edward Hagan (aka John E.), a Missouri farmer & carpenter.

6 'Correspondence of James Voltz 2008 - ongoing. One of Jane Stoughton (b. 1821) & Thomas Boyles children was Martha Boyle(b. 26 Mar 1843 / wed 1 July 1863 / d. 2 Mar 1873. - dates from Jim's aunt's book) who married John Edward Hagan. It is said that he was a Missouri farmer.

Children of Jane & Thomas Boyle: Catherine( married Enoch Varnum), Martha (died in infancy); Martha Jane, "now deceased", married Edward Hagan, a farmer and carpenter,and lived in Missouri ; Nancy ( married Robert Hampson Book), Hannah (unmarried), John, Bernard and Thomas, (died in infancy),Christian(died in infancy), Cornelia (died unmarried), James Clyde(married Kathleen McNair).

Source notes

  • John Edward Hagan, spouse of Martha Jane Boyle, was the step-son of Martha Jane's uncle Barnard VanZant Stoughton through Barnard's second wife, Susan Myer (Hagan) (per JIm Voltz research). Thus John Edward Hagan and Martha Jane Boyle would be unrelated, but rather like "step-cousins".
  • Thomas Boyle Hagan married first to Bridget Barry. Sometime after his father's death he moved to Arkansas with his second wife, Naomi Ward (per Jim Voltz research).
