Williams, 31, born Mar 1868, married to Mary A. Williams, 30, born Apr 1870. They live with three children and three boarders: son John D. Williams, 7, born Mar 1893; son Will M. Williams, 3, born May 1895; son James M. Williams, 1, born May[?] 1898; boarder James Collie[?], 30, born Jan 1870; boarder Archabel[??] Birkie, 28, born Dec 1872, and boarder "Walker Beacher", 25, born Jan 1875. Edmon M. Williams and Mary A. Williams have been married for 8 years. Mary A. Williams has born four children, three of which are still living. All of the Williams family and their parents were born in NC, and the same with Mr. Birkie and Mr. Beacher. Mr. Collie and his parents were born in VA. Edmon M. Williams' occupation is listed as "Cloth Inspector / Mill". Mary A. Williams' occupation is "seamstress." John D. Williams is listed as being in school. Mr. Birkie's occupation is illegible. Mr. Collie's occupation is "Weaver (Cotton Mill)." Mr. Beacher's occupation is "Clerk (Dry Goods)." All of the adults can read, write, and speak English. These census pages are dated 13 and 14 Jun 1900, respectively. Margin notes by the enumerator indicate that the Williams family lived on "Davidson St." Furthermore, this was the first record from that street, suggesting that perhaps they lived on a corner lot.
4	1910 United States Federal Census, Charlotte Township, Mecklenburg County, NC, Enumeration District 97, Page 4, lines 4-11 lists E. M. Williams, 42, married to Mary A. Williams. They live with six children: son John D. Williams, 17; son William M. Williams, 14; son James M. Williams, 11; son Walker F. Williams, 8; son Lee[?] Otto Williams, 6; and daughter Gertrude Williams, 2. E.M. Williams and Mary A. Williams have been married for 18 years. Mary A. Williams has born seven children, six of which are still living. Everyone and their parents were born in NC. Everyone but Gertrude can speak English. Everyone but Gertrude and Otto can read English. Everyone but Gertrude, Otto, and Walker can write English. All of the children except Gertrude and Otto attended school within the census year. E.M. Williams' occupation is listed as a mail carrier for the postal service. John D. Williams' occupation is listed as a sign painter in a shop. The census page is dated 16 Apr 1910.

The residence is 14 North Long St. The initial for James is reported as M in previous census, but ages and employment are consistent.	,

8	Certificate of Death from the North Carolina State Board of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, dated 22 Jan 1956. Name listed as John Dunkin Williams, Sr. Died at his home, 2021 Rosselle Ferry Rd., Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC at the age of 62. He had been living in Charlotte for 57 years. He was a white male, married to Corinna Lowder Williams. He was born 21 Mar 1893 in Montgomery Co., NC. He worked as a sign painter. His father's name was Edmund Williams and his mother was Mary Ann Scarborough. Cause of death was [illegible] embolism. No autopsy was performed. He was buried on 23 Jan 1956 at Oaklawn Cemetery, Mecklenburg Co., NC, by McEwen Funeral Service.
9	Certificate of Death from the North Carolina State Board of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, dated 24 Sep 1942. Name listed as Miss Gertrude Williams. She died in the Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC, at the age of 34. She had been in the hospital since 21 Jul 1942. Before that, she had been living on Wilkinson Blvd., Charlotte, Mecklenburg Co., NC. She died on 24 Sep 1942 at 8pm of an intestinal obstruction. She was a single white female. She was born on 26 Mar 1908 in Charlotte, NC. Her occupation is listed as "Beauty operaton." Her father was E. M. Williams and he was born in NC. Her mother was Mary Scarbrough, and she was also born in NC. Gertrude was buried on 26 Sep 1942 at Oaklawn Cemetery, Charlotte, NC, by Douglas & Sing.

15	Marriage Register for Montgomery Co., NC, includes an entry for Edmund M. Williams, 24, marrying Mary A. Scarboro, 23. Both were residents of Montgomery Co., NC. Their license was issued on 15 Jun 1892 and the wedding took place on 19 Jun 1892 at Erie Mills. Justice of the Peace H. M. Scarboro performed the marriage and the witnesses were J. M. Ballard, C. T. Green, and Ellen McQuage.
16	City Directory for Charlotte, NC, dated 1910, pg. 369, includes an entry for Edmond M. Williams and his wife Mary living at 707 E. 9th St. Edmond is a letter carrier.

Source notes

• Search of Ancestry.com census records for 1930 gave no evidence of Edmond Maxton Williams. Search included all last name Williams born 1866-1870 in all states. Death records also gave no results. John Duncan Williams, Jr. has no recollection of meeting his grandfather (from a phone interview in July, 2007), so it may well be that he died in the 1920's.

• The birth year of Mary Ann Scarbrough is not well defined. The census documents point to either 1868 or 1870, the marriage license to 1864.
