[edit] Plummer Research - Relationship Not Established

Ref. Num. Description Image of original
R1 1860 United States Federal Census, Western District, Mecklenburg County, NC, Pg 130. Date of census 28 Aug 1860. Robert A. Plummer, age 26, laborer; living with Rob't W. Ferris, aged 34 gold miner, real estate $200; wife Susan 28, John 7; Ann 5; Robert 3. This census included as a direct line possibility; Robert A. Plummer is the right age for our Robert A. Plummer, and the location is reasonable. His marriage to Laura Stewart came the following year.
1860 census nc mecklenburg western division pg 130.jpg
R2 Searches of the 1840 and 1830 census revealed no Robert Plummer,; he is probably living with his family and a father's name is needed to continue the search. Searches of the census for 1910, 1920 and 1930 were unsuccessful.

[edit] Source notes

  • The 1870 census lists wife "Lizzie". Since Robert married Laura E. Stewart in 1861 and is still married to Laura E. in 1880, it is clear that the E. in her name is Elizabeth and that at some point she was going by "Lizzie" as a nickname. There is no evidence for a second wife.
  • No census data for the brothers of Arabella could be clearly identified after 1880. There were heads of household and others who might be the correct Charles, Frank and Robert, but not in places that made it seem clear that it was the right person. No marriage or other records could be identified.
  • The sources disagree on the name of Robert A. Plummer's mother. In the 1850 census, Washington Plummer is married to "Amanda"; but the NC Marriage Records and the Sugaw Creek burial records indicate Susan or Susannah. Amanda could be a middle name.
