7 Burke Stoughton correspondence 2007 - ongoing.
Luke was born 1792-93, & was a veteran of the War of 1812.
Burke describes having had an old paper (now disintegrated), a note sent home by William Stoughton, who was with Andrew Jackson, at New Orleans and he mentions his brother Luke as being well. "The note opened with a short phrase praising God and then went on to say that he was as well as could be expected, as was Luke, and that he was not liking the south "because of the insects was so bad" and he mentioned the swamp. There was one passing mention of the British and the fact that a fight was imminent and he asked those at home to pray for them. The note was signed Will Stoten, and sent to ____ Stoton, Butler County PA"
