Source notes

  • search by page of Elk Twp in 1860 and 1870 census showed no Etzel families (or anyone who could be interpreted as a versionof the name). Index search on Ancestry.com gave no Frank Etzel in PA.

Conjecture

  • Lieberum Cemetery, Ashland Twp., Clarion Co. PA was once associated with a church that no longer stands(St. John's Reformed?). However, the cemetery seems to have served only 4 families: Fredericks (3 stones), Dietrichs (1 stone), Etzels (5 stones), and Young (1 stone). The last burial appears to have been John V. Frederick in 1947, until recently 2 stones for the Flick family have been added. Their relationship is not known to us; one name is Jay Frederick Flick, so probably descendants of John Frederick.

Gravestones for additional Etzels at Lieberum Cemetery, transcribed Sept 1991 by E. W. Williams, relationship presently not established:
*"Eddie Eetzel Apr 15, 1897 - Nov 18, 1897"
*"Rosa wife of Conrad Etzel, June 20, 186(4) - Feb 9, 18(8)2, aged 18 yrs __ mos & 11 d."
