This indicates that one daughter did not survive to the time of his will, 1847. The male age 20-30 is possibly George's brother Arguile, since Arguile does not seem to appear in the 1830 census, whereas his brother Colin C. King does.

5	Interview of Henrietta King Sunday 8 Aug. 1993, Charlotte, NC, by Murphy Whisnant. "This afternoon we took some family history over to Herietta and during converstion she was telling about her father, Alphonso W. King, and his telling her that her great grandfather was George Washington. Being proud of it she told her school friends and at home one day she also told a visiting friend that her great grandfather was George Washington. Alfonso King heard part of the conversation and asked her what she had said. He corrected her as meaning her great grandfather was George Washington King."

Source Notes

• No George W. King, Arguile King, nor Colin C. King ( or name variants) found in the 1820 census. Their father John King not found. John W. King found in 1820, but by 1830 his age brackets rule him out as a match (1820 age brackets too broad to judge).
• The 1840 census Mecklenburg County indicates that George W. King's wife is already dead by 1840. His will is dated 1847, so very likely he also may be dead by 1850.

Research Notes

• The 1850 census from Cherokee County has not been linked explicitly to our direct-line Kings; a lot of the names matched up so I included it here, even though Cherokee County is quite a ways away from Charlotte.

R1	1850 United States Federal Census, (township not listed), Cherokee Co., NC, page 109, lines 32-42, and page 110, lines 1-9 list several King families living adjacaent to one another. RELATIONSHIP NOT ESTABLISHED. Name similarities are of interest; location is unexpected. In the fist house there is a John King, 49, married to an Elizabeth King, 47. They live with seven children: son James M. King, 27; son Degall[?] P. King, 20; son Daniel G.[?] King, 18; daughter Lucinda King,14; daughter Hannah E. King, 12; son Andrew M. King, 9; and daughter [unknown] M. King, 6. John, James, Degall, and Daniel are farmers. Everyone was born in NC. The next house on the list belongs to George W. King, 26, an his wife Mary A. King, 23. They live with two children: son John V.[?] King, 3, and son Zacariah T.[?] King, age 3 months. George is a farmer. They were all born in NC. The next house on the list belongs to William King, 28, and his wife Elizabeth King, 26. They live with five children: son George W. King, 7; son John F. King, 5; son James W. King, 4; daughter Susan L. King, 2; and daughter Martha P. King, age one month. William is a farmer. Everyone was born in NC except for Elizabeth, who was born in TN. Elizabeth is illiterate. George and John attended school within the census year. This census is dated 1 Jun 1850.
