Note in the photo of Lester Lawrence with (nephew's wife) Eloise White Wilson, the low spring house to right in photo. The location isn't know, possibly the old Lawrence farm but could also be the Bert Wilson farm in Nickleville, Venango Co. PA. "Uncle Les" resided in later years with his cousin Bert, after the death of Bert's wife. Eloise White married Russell W. Wilson, son of Bert Wilson. E.W.W.

Source Notes

  • 1880 census: Robert Lawrence (b. ca. 1853) and Peter Kane Lawrence (b. ca. 1859) are listed in the 1880 U.S. census, in the household with Samuel Lawrence (b. ca. 1847). Relationships were incorrectly recorded by the census taker. Nobody is listed as head of household, so it is unclear to whom the listed relationships refer. Samuel (b. ca. 1847) is listed as "son", and his mother Catherine is listed as "mother". The two males Peter Kane and Robert, aged in their twenties, are both labeled "brother", and are presumably both sons of Catherine, and brothers of Samuel.
The two infants, Washington W. La.,age 2 years, and Annie Gertrude, age 1 month, appear after Peter Kane Lawrence's name, and would normally be presumed to then be his children. This might suggest that Peter Kane Lawrence had been married, and that possibly his wife died at the birth of the infant Annie Gertrude. Wilson Washington Lafayette Lawrence is however found listed in the above Children's Chart as born 8 May 1878, the oldest son of (Peter Kane Lawrence's brother) Samuel Lawrence, who was married in 1877. It is clearly the same child. Samuel may have adopted Peter Kane's son, or the two children in the 1880 census may in fact both be the children of Samuel. The census is clearly not well recorded.
The child Wilson Washington Lafayette Lawrence does appear but infant Annie Gertrude does not appear among the children of Samuel Lawrence listed by John Thomas Wilson(grandson of Elizabeth Stoughton, who was Lucinda Ann Stoughton's sister and would have been an aunt of these children). Annie Gertrude may not have survived, regardless of whose child she was, and been lost to memory. If number of names is a clue to parentage, Wilson Washington Lafayette Lawrence's 4 names compares to Robert Lester Cleveland Lawrence's 4 names, suggesting Samuel Lawrence as the father of both.
  • Lucinda Ann Stoughton's well-preserved (new?)gravestone lists her birth year as 1859. The census taken on 27 June 1860 however shows her as 6 mos. old. If this gravestone were erected more recently by descendants, perhaps they have miss-interpreted the census record as to her age. The only other possibility would be the census taker in 1860 incorrectly listing her age as 6 mos. rather than 18 mos.
  • John T. Wilson lists the children of Ella Mae Lawrence as: 1st marriage, Cecil Wimer; 2nd marriage, William Morrow Jr., Lawrence Morrow, & unknown Morrow; 3rd marriage, Lena Kell.
Children of Justice Palmer Meade Lawrence & Maggie Link: Palmer Ernest Lawrence (1906-26 Oct 1963) & John Clayton Lawrence (b. 26 June 1913).
