Inez Pope King
Mrs. King, 92, of Charlotte passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Hospice House of Union County. Born in Conover on January 14, 1918, Inez was the daughter of the late O.O. Pope and Maude Mingus Pope. A resident of Charlotte most of her life, Mrs. King had worked over 37 years as a supervisor for Lance and had served on the Board of Directors for the Lance Credit Union. She was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she was active in the PTA, Women's Circle and the Quilting Group. Mrs. King loved the outdoor and gardening, to travel, especially to the North Carolina Mountains and beaches. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had an 'Open Door Policy' for the neighborhood children and friends. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Andrew 'Andy' King, who passed in 1996. She is survived by her children Saundra Pons and her husband Frederic 'Dick' of Matthews and Andrew 'Rocky' King and wife Tina of Surfside Beach, SC; sisters Virginia Rozzelle of Charlotte and Colleen Stine of Pasadena, MD; brother Harold Pope of High Point; grandchildren Teresa and Tom Orr and their children Emory and Carson, Marti and Mike Vagnone and their children Nicholas, Vincent and Anthony, Beth and Chad Grubbs and their children Banks, Brooklyn and Blakely and Bobby King. She is also survived by a large extended family. A service to celebrate the life of Inez King will take place on Tuesday, March 16th at 2:00 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 East Morehead St., Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment was private. Donations may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 East Morehead St, Charlotte, NC 28204, or to Hospice and Palliative Care, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
