Source Notes

  • The 1870 census erroneously lists "Oliver C. Bower, male", for Olive Samantha Bower, female (step daughter).
  • The 1860 census taken 18 June 1860 lists daughter Mary's age as one month; thus she was born in May 1860. Apparently the son and daughter of Jacob & Clara Beals were twins, from this census date, and the son's gravestone at Emanuel Lutheran cemetery.
  • Margaret Kahle lists Mary A. Beals as a child of Jacob & Clara Beals. However, from her gravestone transcription, her birth date calculates to be about 21 March 1860. That would make her almost 3 months old at the time of the 1860 census. Either some portion of the death date incorrectly engraved, or miss-transcribed, or this child belongs to other parents.
  • The gravestone for J. Lamont Hunter is pictured on FindAGrave.com website. His gravestone at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Beaver Twp., Clarion Co. PA reads: J. L. Hunter 1852-1897.
The website indicates further: Birth Dec. 4, 1852, Clarion Co. PA; Death Feb. 20, 1897 Knox, Clarion Co.PA. Child: Iva M. Hunter McElhatten (1876-1951). Her page indicates b.7 Nov 1876, d. 17 Dec. 1951, buried Clarion Cemetery. (Her mother, spouse not indicated). Pages by Linda Jemmett. See: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=20473492
  • The death of Clara A. (Miller?)Beals occurred before April 1886, when her 2nd husband J. Lamont Hunter married a third time, as indicated in his obituary above.
