WAR DEPARTMENT

THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE

WASHINGTON

IN REPLY REFER TO OR/kfg

July 27, 1940

Respectfully returned to

Mrs. L. L. Barlow, Route 3, Box 5-A, Manassas, Virginia.

The records of this office show that one Uzziel B. Church was enrolled July 10, 1862, at Terre Haute, Indiana; mustered in July 10, 1862, at Indianapolis, Indiana, as a private of Company I, 16th Indiana Infantry, and was mustered out and honorably discharged as a sergeant June 30, 1865, at New Orleans, Louisiana.

The reocrds covering the Civil War period rarely show specifically battles or engagements in which an individual soldier participated unless when wounded or killed in action.

The records show that the above named man was wounded at battle near Richmond, Kentucky, August 30, 1862. No other mention is made in his record as to any other battles in which he served.

However, a history of the activities of the 16th Regiment Indiana Infantry may be found Volume 2, Pages 143, 144, Report of the Adjutant General, State of Indiana, which publication may possibly be consulted in any large public library.
