NOT A DIRECT ANCESTOR

Emma B. Frederick is not in my direct ancestry. She is 1 step removed in the following ways:

Emma Frederick Jury cropped.jpg
Emma Frederick was the middle of 3 Frederick sisters. Born in Ashland Twp., Clarion Co. PA near Pine City in 1858, she was six years younger than Mary, and seven years older than Ella. She had an older brother Frank and two younger brothers, John V. (born on Valentines Day), and Jacob who died at age twenty. Her baby sister Josephine died in infancy or childhood.
Emma married twice, first to William Lintz. Emma had a daughter Bertha, presumably with Mr. Lintz, but Bertha went by the surname of Frederick. In the 1880 census Emma was divorced and living again with her parents, but Bertha doesn't appear in the census; perhaps she was born after the divorce.
Emma Frederick married second to John Henry Jurey, and possibly resided at Pitchpine, later at Fertigs, Pinegrove Twp, Venango Co. Emma and Henry Jurey had six children, some of whom survived into the 1980's. Daughter Anna E. Jurey married Frank Leslie Schwab and resided in New York state; their children lived in Rochester and Salamanca, NY. Emma's letter to her sister Mary in 1912 indicates that her father John Frederick was possibly living with her at that time. Emma would have been about age 54 in 1912. Emma died at the age of eighty, and is buried at Perry's Chapel Cemetery.

8 Research of Hazel Sheffer (Crawford), deceased 1983; granddaughter of Elizabeth Anna Frederick. Listed Emma B. Frederick Jury's first husband as William Lintz.
9 Research Manuscript of Ella May Beals (Wilson) 1975-1985, including personal knowledge and interviews of her siblings Robert Beals and Bertha Beals Chambers, and of her aunt Mary P. Kline Fillgrove.
10 Research & personal correspondence of Wilda Dietrich Dehart, 1992-1997.
  • Bertha Lintz married Roland Coats. Their 3 children were Mabel Coats, Alvida Coats, and Willy Coats. Alvida married (unknown), & had a son & duaghter. the duaghter died in a car accident, that Alvida was also in; Alvida died in 1992, in her 90's. Willy Coats was a bachelor, died ~1990/91.
  • Bertha Lintz was raised by her grandparents John & Catherine Frederick, & did housekeeping for John Frederick after Catherine died, so possibly knew more of their history. Bertha's daughter Alvida related the following:
When John (Johannes) Frederick left Germany, he escaped through "the dung hole", an opening for removing manure from the animal quarters section of the 3-part house/barn. So, apparently someone was at the door waiting to either arrest or conscript him.
After Catherine Kennemuth (Frederick) died in 1889, John made several trips to Pittsburgh to visit daughter Mary Frederick (Dietrich). John remarried, and the 2nd wife committed suicide.

Source notes

  • Bertha, daughter of Emma Frederick, carried the surname Frederick. She may have been born before Emma married Wm. Lintz
  • Ancestry.com search did not locate Emma Jury or John Jury in 1930 census.
