Dimitris Vergetakis and wife Maria farmed in the village of Krousonas, which is about 25 miles south of Iraklion, Crete. They had seven children: three sons (
Giannis, Michalis, Giorgios) and four daughters (
Athina, Katerina, Kristali, Kyrgiakoula
). The youngest son, Giorgios, born 1900 in Krousonas, immigrated in 1916 to New York and thence to western Pennsylvania, becoming a small business owner. He and wife Ruth Wilson had four children, named after Giorgios' parents and his two brothers. He changed his name to George Vergis
