NOT A DIRECT ANCESTOR

Alvin Merle Wilson is not in my direct ancestor. He is 2 steps removed in the following ways:

Merle Wilson was born in 1910, the second child of Jim Wilson and Lorena Bernice Mayer. He married Elda Bickel. Merle and his sister Pearl both married Bickels and later lived on adjacent farms (just west of Rt. 8, on the south side of Rt.108 going toward Slippery Rock). The Bickel spouses of Merle and Pearl Wilson were not siblings, but perhaps cousins.

  • WILSON Merle A. June 19, 1910 - Dec. 19, 1990; Elda M. July 15, 1916 - (uninscribed)
  • Joan C. Wilson 1945-2000

Source Notes

  • As Pearl Wilson & Clifford Bickel lived adjacent to Merle Wilson & Elda Bickel, (on farms just south of Rt. 108 (near Rt. 8 outside of Slippery Rock), it is possible that the old Bickel farm was divided between these two families.
  • Gravestone for Joan C. Wilson at West Liberty Cemetery lies near the marker of Merle A. Wilson & wife; although she did marry, her stone carries her maiden name. Per Jan Finke, Joan's dates are 28 Nov 1945-12 June 2000; she had 2 children, Fred & Lisa Bowman, who were adopted by Mr. Dwyer. Joan was divorced twice.
  • The only evidence at present for a daughter named Margaret (who married a Headland), is the manuscript of John T. Wilson (who would be a cousin ). She is not named in her mother's obituary either as a survivor or as deceased. Per Dorothy Frances Wilson Heckathorn, daughter of James G. Wilson, Margaret "Peggy" Headland was not the daughter of Merle Wilson, but the wife of Brice Wilson. Per John T. Wilson, son of Bert W. Wilson, Brice Wilson's wife was Helen McCreary.
