Sources:

• The 1894 marriage license for L. Brady Lowder lists father as Edmond Lowder and mother as Eliza Lowder. From this we would assume that Lowder was the father's surname. However, the mother Eliza is found in 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records as Eliza Lowder living without a husband and in the 1850 census she along with her sister Lunda are living with their mother Elizabeth Lowder. Lowder is a common surname in Stanly County, so both could be correct.

5	City Directory for Charlotte, NC, in 1897 includes a listing for Arabella Lowder, widow of L. Brady Lowder, residing at 314 N. McDowell.
6	Marriage Register for Mecklenburg Co., NC, includes an entry for L. B. Lowder, 24, marrying M. A. Plummer, 23, on 13 Jun 1894 in Charlotte, NC. Witnesses include E. S. Pritchett, L. L. Hackney, and Q? A. Plummer. There is an entry from earlier that year for an A. A. Lowder, 23, marrying a Janice C. Faires, 16, on 21 Feb 1894 at Millard Creek and one of the witnesses is M. A. Plummer. It seems likely that this is Margarette Arabella Plummer witnessing the wedding of her soon-to-be brother-in-law or cousin-in-law.

• Searches in the following locations have failed to find Brady Lowder:
  1) Page-by-page search of 1870 and 1880 Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC census data. Two Lowders were located, neither was correct.
  2) Page-by-page search of 1870 and 1880 Stanly County, NC townships. There are a large number of Lowders here, but no Brady or anything that might be read or interpreted as Brady. A few individuals with initials ""B."" were found. However, Lowders with first name Lawrence and Ledocus are found in 1870 and 1880.
  3) A full country search for Brady Lowder in the 1870 and 1880 census data. Searches on just Lowder and just first or last name Brady also gave no result.
  4) Similar searches of British census data for 1891, 1871 and 1861 gave no returns.
  5) Searches of immigration lists, military records and other data available from Ancestry.com gave no results.
  
  Family tradition says that Brady Lowder was killed in a streetcar accident shortly after the birth of Corinna Brady Lowder. There does not appear to be any record of his existence in the electronic data sets. A Brady Carl Lowder was born in Stanly County in 1899. It seems possible that there is a connection between these two individuals, but I can not establish it at this time.

• A line-by-line search of the census records from 1870 for Stanly County,NC gave no record of Edmond Lowder. It is possible that he was working away from the family at that time. A third son, Joshua was born to Eliza Lowder in ~1874.

B	1860 United states federal Census, Stanly County, NC, page 146. Census dated 24 July 1860. Lines 37-40: Elizabeth Lowder, 55, farmer, $300 real/$30 personal property, can not read or write English; Eliza, 25; Landa, 22; James Herson, (her son?) 2. All b. NC. NOTE: Ancestry.com editors read the child's name as James Herson, however, it appears with a break,(Her son). As there is no place in this census for noting relationships, this is possibly such a notation that James was a son of Landa, who is named immediately preceding him. Note that in the 1870 census, Lundy has a son James W, then age 13; she still lives with her sister Eliza (who also has a son James (James E, age 7). This may suggest that the father of Eliza and Lundy was named James, or that the father of either or both of these children was named James.

All b. NC. The next listing (lines 12-16: Lundy Lowder, 34, keeping house; James W., 13, at home; Nancy J., 10; William, 2; Elizabeth, 60, can not write. All b. NC. The age for Lawrence matches that for L. Brady Lowder, and the mother's name is correct.
D	1910 United States Federal Census,Anson Co. NC, Lanesboro Twp. Census date 26 April 1910. Lines 13-14: Lowder, J. (F?), head, white male age 36, single, farmer. Eliza, mother, white female age 76, widow. Both, and their parents, born in NC. Note: on lines 33-35 is a family of L. (J>?T>) Carpenter, with a son Brady, age 6 months. Noted only in that the given name "Brady" was not uncommon in that time & place.
E	1870 United States Federal Census, Almond Twp., Stanly County, NC, Page 30. Date of census 13 Aug 1870. Lines 26-28: Harrison Lowder, 21, farmer; Elizabeth Lowder, 23, keeping house, can not read or write; Luther 11 months, at home, born July. All b. NC. The age for Luther matches that for L. Brady Lowder, and the mother's name is correct; however, this record seems less likely to be L. Brady since the father's name is wrong and since the Eliza Lowder above can be followed into Anson County in 1910 census. This agrees with the information on the marriage certificate above.
