- 1860 census Muddy Creek, Butler Co., family of Jacob R. Stoton: the order of listing children suggests that Rebecca E, John (W/M?), and William C. are not children of this family, but related. Their birth years align fairly closely with the same named children of Jacob's brother, Thomas Stoughton (see 1850 census above). If this suggests that perhaps Thomas' wife had died by 1860, it would also raise the question of the fate of their other two children, Adaline (b. 1847) and Adalia (b. 1850).
