Have I, all this time, been wearing my pants incorrectly or something?
Allow me to explain the need for this question. As I mentioned earlier, I recently purchased a new cell phone and it isn't the smallest phone ever; it's more like a small PDA. This causes some consternation amongst the membership of the Committee for the Organization of Mouser's Pockets, namely me. I don't want to scratch the screen on the phone, so I can't put it in the pocket with my keys, and it's too big to fit into a pocket along with a wallet. Putting the wallet and the keys in the same pocket is a pain because the one I want access to at any given time is always at the bottom. This has forced me to enter the realm of The Third Pocket, i.e. a rear pocket.
Now I'm well aware that guys have been carrying wallets in their back pockets for years and, indeed, for most men it seems to be the default location for a wallet. But for whatever reason, I've always carried my wallet in the front-left (keys and pen in the front-right). So I figured it wouldn't be a problem to just replace the wallet with the phone, and put the wallet in one of the rear pockets.
But when I sit down, there is no way for me to sit without sitting on top of my wallet, which is extremely uncomfortable. I can't imagine that all these guys who normally carry their wallet in their back pockets are just accepting this massive ergonomic affront and go about their business with a slight list to starboard, so there must be something about either my pants or my body that is causing the wallet-buttock alignment factor (WBAF) to be out of whack for me. So, I ask you... do I wear my pants wrong? Or do I wear the wrong pants? Or do I just have a funny-shaped ass?
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do if I also want to carry around my camera, which fits nicely in a pocket by itself but not with anything else... Clearly I need to stick to cargo pants with the thigh pockets; they work great.
Down with rear pockets!

My wallet has always been in my back right pocket. Keys in front right, phone in front left.
I've got a small ass and baggy pants, so my wallet tends to slide to the right a bit so I'm not sitting directly on top of it.
Like anything you get used to it. After a couple months the wallet will conform to your ass and it will actually feel odd to sit down without it in your back pocket. I assume I'd feel the same way if I shifted it to a front pocket, would just feel odd to me.
Cargo pants for the win though.
I put my wallet and keys in my right front pocket, mobile in my left front pocket. Nothing goes in the back pockets because back pocket stuff is way easier to pickpocket (from what I understand...unless you have side-loading front pockets). I've never understood the wallet in the back pocket thing...it does hurt like a MF when you sit down.
Maybe what I need is a more compact wallet. Or looser pants. If only my job allowed me to wear something other than vinyl daisy dukes...
When I read that I had to stop and think if I could even feel the things in my rear pockets. I can sort of notice the wallet if I think about it, but I have always worn it back on the rear left so it seems normal. It shifts to the side enough that I don't sit right on it. Front left is keys and change, front right is checkbook, right rear is comb and handkerchief normally. Us old guys have different habits I guess. If I were to be forced to carry a phone it would probably go with the checkbook as does my camera if I am not wearing a shirt with a pocket.
You still carry a checkbook around on a daily basis? I write maybe one check every six months or so. What are you paying for with checks?
There are places around here that accept checks but not cards. Seems strange, but check fees to the merchant are lower than card fees. Mostly though it is just habit.
I think it's just an issue of people being used to it. I do the same as you, but swapped left-right. If I need to carry a camera in a pocket, I typically move the keys over under the wallet, but it's only temporary. Small and cheap cell phone goes with the keys when I'm bothered to carry it.
I'll be in the Phoenix area in about a week for a two week span, is there anything you'd recommend in the area? Explorey, good food, touristy, good view, whatever.
Also: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/mouser_log/profile ... had my paid lj-member girlfriend create it so I could pull it into my friends page, instead of remembering to read your log once every few months. Might be of use to the people who have you friended on LJ.
mouser... i have a pda that I carry around everywhere... in any pocket... i put a simple clear plastic screen protector sticker thingy directly on the screen which absorbs all the dingy scrizzatchies and what not... also cuts down glare... i simply replace it every few months ;) btw nice rom stash.. u da mame!
carthart shorts and pants have the "ultimate" PDA pocket... right on the outer thigh wear your hand hangs in a normL stance... peace
you might just need to get yourself a manbag
Carrying your wallet in your back pocket could be dangerous.

My suggestion would be to get rid of your cell phone.

Carrying your wallet in your back pocket could be dangerous to your health, especially when you start making staff salary.
You could always carry your phone in a belt holster. You would be Really Cool. Annoying ringtone things would be mandatory. And perhaps a gold chain to keep people from ripping it off.
Why not just lose the phone entirely? :)
I don't know what a "manbag" is, but I vote for that one. Just PUH-LEESE make sure it's color-coordinated with your vinyl daisy dukes.
I put a few loose cards (driver's license, prox card, t-pass) in with the cell phone in a front pocket, and the wallet in the knapsack or left at home.
(I worry slightly that this could cause an attempt at mugging me to go worse than otherwise.)
I don't think back pockets are all roses for those with chubby cheeks; putting a wallet there can result in weird dimples and bald spots.
Me, small money clip/card holder right front. Chapstick and sometime's phone in left front depending on choice of wear that day. Nothing in either rear pocket's.
Time for a little wardrobe change up ?? "Dickies" pants, their cargo paint's and their short's have a handy little AUX pocket (aka cell phone pocket) on the leg. Its either go to that or painters pants for the available amenities.

Better yet, ditch the electronic leash and stay cerebral.
If you like all the buldges, go for it. Otherwise, get a life and a back pack. Duh.
I carry my wallet in my back pocket. Most of the times I don't notice it. Sometimes, I do. During those times I take it out and put it on my table/desk.
What's all the hubub?
i wear my wallet in my back right pocket, my phone in right and keys in left but my back pocket are pretty low and real tight so when i sit down my wallets like on the under part of my thigh so it doesnt really hurt my ass
