today was the third sunday of the month, the sunday after the friday before the third sunday of the month which strangely enough always lands on a '-teen' day, and is therefore called "friday the eenth" or "frideen" or "teen friday."
anyway, it means that today was the electronics swap meet over at the parking garage. rolf and i went and did the rounds. we saw the nerds, we oogled the junk, and i bought a 540 MB SCSI HD for my mac for $30.
we were both looking for vintage audio gear... i found half a patch bay which i didn't buy because it was rusty and had solder lugs at one end, and we saw a casio drum machine of questionable worth for $100 that we also didn't buy.
rolf came away empty-handed.
i had to spend the rest of the day doing 22.55 problem sets with evan and ben.
i stayed up late working with this harddrive and the damned SE/30. a note to people who work with the guts of an SE/30: that hard drive rail, when you dismount it, can't be reattached unless you have a magnetic screwdriver and iron screws - neither of which i had. i managed to get the new harddrive in and one of the mounting screws back in place after about 25 minutes.
of course the thing won't boot. i imagine it's a SCSI problem or perhaps the drive just won't work in a mac. after all, it was manufactured by IBM...
